after fuller information has been collected by the Govern-
-ment Analyst as to the strength of spirit when imported
and when broken down for consumption in the Colony.

The additional Staff which Mr.
Percebois has recommended and the engagement of which Sir
F. Lugard authorized before his departure, will cost
$6,558.00 bringing the total estimated cost of collection
up to $48,589.00 in the current year, as shown in the
attached statement. The amount voted in the Estimates for
the current year for this Service is $60,000.

reported in Sir F. Lugard's Despatch No. 283 of 5th.
October last, Lieutenant C. W. Beckwith, Assistant Harbour
Master, has been temporarily in charge of the collection
of duties on intoxicating liquors since the Ordinance
No. 27 of 1909 was passed in September last, and that Sir
F. Lugard considered the post sufficiently arduous and
important to warrant a salary of £600 - £720 being assigned
to it. Lieutenant Beckwith has since the date of his
appointment drawn salary at the rate of 2600 per annum.
